Training approach options

You have three options for the approach you take to formal training of your staff.

1) Arrange a session with an online trainer in which you assemble staff in a meeting or computer training room and participate “at the same time in the same place.”

2) When it is difficult to assemble your staff in the same room, you can request a private “webinar” in which staff members participate from their own offices using their computers or tablets.

a) If you have staff members in fewer than 14 offices, we can use a GoToMeeting session which makes it possible for staff members to hear the trainer and speak questions to the trainer (two-way phone connection).

b) If you have staff members in more than 14 offices but less than 99 offices, we can use GoToWebinar session in which staff members can hear the trainer and can type questions to the trainer (one-way phone only).

3) Take advantage of our regularly scheduled series of webinars. Recommended webinars for new hiring managers are AppliTrack 101 and AppliTrack 201. Recommended webinars for new HR staff are AppliTrack Orientation for New HR Staff and Routine Maintenance of AppliTrack. On Demand versions of these webinars are available.

Training audience

It is best to distinguish between training for your principals (and other hiring managers) and your HR staff. Most clients arrange one hour of online, group training for their principals and hiring managers and one hour for HR staff.

* Who is the audience for your training (e.g. principals, department heads, hiring supervisors, or HR staff.)?

Training content

Please see the list of Training Programs on the Planning Your Training page.

* Are there specific skills you would like us to demonstrate in addition to the skills listed in the Training Programs?

Do training “just-in-time”

Training is most effective if it is “just-in-time,” that is, just before staff will begin using AppliTrack regularly. For principals, this means waiting until they will actually begin the hiring process using AppliTrack. For HR staff, this means doing the training at or around the time you will begin setting up and using the system on a regular basis.

It is best to “go live” to receive applications but wait to train principals until you have received 40 – 50 applications. This usually takes 2 - 4 weeks depending on the size of your organization. Then, we will be able to do realistic screening of applicants using your own installation of AppliTrack. Otherwise, we must use a demo system which may not look exactly like your own installation.

* When do you plan to “go live” and begin accepting applications?

Do training “hands-on”

Although not required, hands-on training will help hiring managers or HR staff receive guided practice using AppliTrack. This will improve their understanding and retention. Do you have a computer lab or can your staff bring their laptops with Internet connection to the session? If so, consider making this a hands-on training session.

* Will this be a hands-on training? If so, will you be using PC’s or Macs?

Smaller groups are best.

Smaller training groups make it easier for principals/hiring managers to ask questions more comfortably and for you and us to address their unique needs. If possible, limit the group to no more than 20. Schedule additional sessions with us, if needed (which will be billed at the rate of $110 / hr.).

* How many people will attend this session?
